Climb the Mountain of Stress with Your Child: Make Mental Wellness Part of Daily Life

At one point or another, most of us have quietly said to ourselves, 'I'm So Stressed Out!'

At CWLF's "Climbing the Mountain of Stress" – Youth Mental Wellness Exhibition, you will meet a "stress monster." It may feel angry, anxious, fearful, or suddenly on the verge of tears — just like the many emotions that can surface when we feel overwhelmed.

This exhibition invites children and adults to follow the stress monster together as they learn to recognize emotions, understand what stress feels like, and respond to it in healthier ways. At their own pace, they can gradually build resilience and make mental wellness a natural part of everyday life.

Sometimes we feel a heaviness in our chest, tightness in our shoulders, or a lack of energy that makes it hard to get through the day. These physical signals may be reminding us that we are feeling stressed, or that some emotions have not yet been fully acknowledged.

In the exhibition, children also share their feelings openly: "My dad keeps pushing me to memorize English vocabulary." "I want to cry, but my family doesn't like it when I cry." "Curiosity often leads to bad results." Through guided activities, children begin to understand that there's no right or wrong when it comes to emotions. They are simply telling us what we are going through in this moment.

The exhibition also encourages children to find healthy coping strategies that work for them, such as drawing, reading, looking back on what they have worked hard to achieve, or offering themselves a few words of encouragement. Through Now Card activities and five-senses awareness exercises, children can practice returning to the present moment, noticing their inner state, and learning how to regulate their emotions.

Everyone has a stress monster inside them. When we are willing to pause, notice it, understand it, and stay with it, we can gradually build the strength to face life's challenges

Join your child in practicing mental wellness and making it part of everyday life.

Organized by CWLF's Taichung Service Center, "Climbing the Mountain of Stress" – Youth Mental Wellness Exhibition invites children and teens on a creative journey to better understand stress and practice emotional care. Through interactive displays, a child-friendly website, and multimedia tools, the exhibition encourages reflection, expression, and sharing.

On-site social workers also offer support and guidance as children navigate challenges related to relationships, career exploration, self-regulation, and identity. More than just a visit, the exhibition is a meaningful experience that helps children feel understood, supported, and empowered.
